Talking about little bookworms, I feel young children, in particular, will love this book. If you are a parent in this group who has a young child or children who love(s) reading, please feel free to take this book from me and gift it to them.
At the heart of this book is an ethical dilemma faced by two young evacuees of war: David and Tucky. The youngsters, who are inseparable from each other, find a loving home in the moors. The setting is World War II, and it's Churchill versus Germany. I won't give away anything more.
The book raises this question: How far should one go to care for another fellow human when that individual is aware that there are limits to this care brought about by circumstances beyond their control?
The takeaway from this book? It's that love and empathy win in the end, every single time, to triumph over animosity; it's that love can be tapped and channeled into compassion to help someone even in the bleakest of circumstances.
