I read Someone to Watch Over Me by Judith McNaught back in 2013, and it’s an absolute 5/5 for me. It’s one of those romantic suspense books that completely sticks with you.
The story follows Leigh Kendall, a successful Broadway actress who gets into a terrible car accident during a blizzard. When she wakes up in the hospital, her husband is completely missing, and the police actually start treating her as the prime suspect. That's when Michael Valente steps in—he’s this wealthy, dangerous guy from her past who steps up to protect her.
McNaught is amazing at building high-stakes drama and angst. The chemistry between Leigh and Michael is incredible, and he is the ultimate protective, brooding hero.
The mystery itself has a lot of twists and turns that keep you hooked, and characters like Sam and McCord really add a lot to the story. The ending does feel a bit rushed after such a long buildup, but overall it’s a gripping, emotional rollercoaster that blends romance and thriller perfectly.
